Leadership New York

Leadership New York is Coro’s dynamic civic leadership development program for mid-career professionals from across the public, non-profit and private sectors. Each year, the Coro New York Leadership Center identifies from among the City’s most talented individuals those ready to take stock of and challenge their own approaches to operating as leaders. Using Coro’s model of hands-on learning, participants go behind the scenes to examine innovative solutions to New York City’s most complex urban issues.
Since 1988, Leadership New York participants have been tackling the difficult public policy decisions that affect their communities, companies and the City as a whole. Participants investigate the City’s multiple challenges in areas as diverse as criminal justice, public health, corporate partnerships, economic development, municipal finance, investment in infrastructure, globalization, the arts, and public education.
Leadership New York looks to build a cohort of dissimilar individuals – joined by their shared commitment to the City -- who can capitalize on their differences to work toward common goals. With the five boroughs as their classroom, participants test their interpretations of events and actions against opposing views. They visit schools, bond-rating agencies, municipal hospitals, corporate headquarters, universities, prisons, think-tanks and youth centers. Panel discussions and small group interviews with corporate executives, elected officials, city commissioners and community leaders reveal how these influential New Yorkers make decisions, generate support for their visions, and collaborate with community partners to confront the city’s challenges.
Leadership New York is committed to developing the skilled, astute leaders New York City needs to continue to thrive: leaders prepared to examine the points where smart public policy intersects with effective civic leadership; leaders willing to grapple with the multiple political, economic and social factors influencing public decision-making; leaders eager to forge an enduring personal and professional network with peers in New York City’s non-profit, government, corporate, media, and labor sectors.
