BONO and PRODUCT RED
Leaders come in all shapes and sizes. And over the last 5 years, more and more celebrities are reaching out using their fame and fortune to help others. Most notably, is probably BONO. he is involved with ONE - the campaign to make poverty and AIDS history and most recently launched the Product RED campaign.
(PRODUCT) RED was created by Bono and Bobby Shriver, Chairman of DATA to raise awareness and money for The Global Fund by teaming up with the world's most iconic brands to produce RED-branded products. A percentage of each (RED) product sold is given to The Global Fund. The money helps women and children with HIV/AIDS in Africa. www.joinred.com Companies like American Express, Motorola, Converse, Apple and the GAP. This past week, October 13th, Bono was in Chicago with Oprah Winfrey, Kanye West, and Penelope Cruz, on Michigan Avenue to officially launch Product Red in the United States.
The key to Product Red is that it's not just a cause - it's a brand. The convergence of celebrity worship, American consumerism and the desire to make the world a better place makes the time ripe for a project like Red to take hold.
The way Bono tells it, Product Red enlists corporations like Motorola to essentially work for people who normally couldn't even afford their products. "What's clever about this is getting the best and brightest of corporate America working for the world's poor." said Bono

It's great that these celebrities get involved with HIV/AIDS & help out, they have the most media power around!
