Leaders In Chicago's Music Community - Music In The Loft

If you have never heard of Music In The Loft (MITL) or treated yourself to one of their venues, you no longer have any excuses!  MITL is dedicated to advancing the professional careers of today's finest young musicians, Music in the Loft provides an intimate and acoustically superior setting for chamber music performances.  Additionally, MITL commissions its
composers-in-residence to write works for the up-and-coming artists it features, and these works are often performed throughout the country.

MITL Opens 2007 with The Lincoln Trio

On Friday, January 19 at 8 p.m. Music in the Loft will present the Lincoln Trio with violinist Desiree Ruhstrat, cellist David Cunliffe, and pianist Marta Aznavoorian. The threesome, praised as a group with “youthful energy and individual artistry,” will perform works by Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, and MITL Composer-in-Residence Pierre Jalbert. The performance will be repeated on Sunday, January 21 at 3 p.m.

The Lincoln Trio

Formed in late 2002 and sponsored by the Elizabeth F. Cheney Foundation, The Lincoln Trio has emerged as one of Chicago's most celebrated ensembles. The group currently serves as the ensemble-in-residence at the Music Institute of Chicago, where each performer also serves on the faculty. The group draws its name from their diverse backgrounds all brought together to make music in the heartland of the U.S., the Land of Lincoln.

Single tickets for this event are $20 or $10 for students. A meet-the-artists reception will follow the concert.

It’s Time to Celebrate MITL’s 15th Anniversary!

When Music in the Loft first opened its doors in the spring of 1992, few people were aware of Chicago’s stunning new music venue. Guided by the mission “to discover the most gifted of today’s young musicians, on the brink of major careers, and to provide them with performance opportunities in a major city in an intimate, nurturing, and acoustically superior setting,” Music in the Loft began with a series of five Sunday performances. Just three years later, it doubled the number of concerts presented each season by adding a Friday/Saturday series to its schedule.

Fifteen years later, its time to celebrate MITL’s many milestones! From hosting a list of artists that reads like the
“Who’s Who of Chamber Music Today,” to presenting special events like the Classics for Kids concert series, MITL has shared many successes with Chicago’s music community. Help us celebrate at the 2007 Kleiner Benefit, taking place on Sunday, May 6 at 4 p.m. This year’s benefit will feature prodigy Conrad Tao on piano and Stephen Burns of Fulcrum Point on trumpet, performing Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 1; the Virtuosi Chicago Chamber Orchestra conducted by Josephine Lee; a Britten oboe quartet with oboist Timothy Sawyier, violinist Sharon Chang, violist Lisa Steltenpohl, and cellist Abraham Feder. Additionally, MITL has commissioned Lita Grier to write a fanfare celebrating MITL’s 15th anniversary. MITL hopes to see you at this fun and festive 15th anniversary celebration!
