Third Annual Starving Artists Sale for Chicago in June

Growing up in rural Michigan in the 70’s, I remember these tacky “Starving Artists”  sales that would set up and sell affordable “art” to the masses, at discounted prices.

Artists Coalition, the 39-year old non-profit dedicated to building a
creative marketplace and strengthening Chicago’s vibrant arts community
by its direct services for individual artists, is pleased to announce
details for its third annual Starving Artist extravaganza.
Starving Artist pairs celebrated local artists with renowned Chicago
chefs who collaborate on edible and aesthetic presentations. The event
will take place on
Saturday June 29 from 7pm to midnight at CAC’s West Loop gallery space located at 217 N. Carpenter Street, Chicago IL 60607.
Tickets are required. All proceeds benefit CAC’s mission and programs. For information and a video from last year, CLICK HERE.

Like past events, this year’s Starving Artist features a star-studded roster of artists and chefs
who are paired to work collaboratively in the months leading up to the
event. Their assignment: to inspire each other to create an edible
“installation” to be enjoyed by the crowd and a new work of art to be
auctioned off the night of the event.

“I like to say this isn’t your mother’s fundraiser,” says Carolina Jayaram,
executive director of Chicago Artists Coalition. “With our amazing
partners, we create an evening that embodies what we do
best—facilitating collaborations that allow audiences to interact with
art in new and unexpected ways.

government endowments for the arts continue to be depleted, it’s
important to find and support organizations that foster creativity,”

is one of the few left that does this wholeheartedly. Chicago chefs and
restaurants can learn a lot and benefit by partnering with the CAC
